The Grand Opening of Crumbs Bake Shop was on Friday and to say it was well attended was certainly an understatement. The crowds filled the lobby and circled around the block in the hopes of scoring a free cupcake. Second Ward Alderman Robert Fioretti was on hand to cut the ribbon. I’m guessing he’s a fan because he walked away with enough cupcakes to feed his staff for a week.

I also walked away with a cupcake before they ran out of freebies. According to staff, the raspberry swirl is one of their best, and after taking a bite I find it hard to disagree.

Things have probably died down a bit at Crumbs, so make your way over there for an afternoon snack. They’re located at 303 W Madison.

If you’re in the vicinity of 303 West Madison, drop by Crumbs Bake Shop for their grand opening today! You may be able to score a free cupcake, but if you have to pay for it you won’t be disappointed. They’re very good! I recommend the $18 twelve-pack of their most popular flavors so you can get their best in one genius swoop of cupcake goodness.

Dec 302010

Crumbs Bake Shop (303 W Madison) opened this morning at 7am. I won’t get there until next year (ha, ha), but I’m super curious about Chicago’s latest addition to the cupcake scene. If you pop in before I do, spoil me and let me know how it was!

The Grand Opening for Crumbs is January 7. Expect free cupcakes and lines!

Buy an ornament!

Congrats to Harold Smith, the Day 12 winner in our Cupcake Guide/Ornament giveaway! Thanks to everyone who participated, but especially @hurdler4eva who commented every single day. I really like this giving stuff away business, so she gets a cupcake guide, too!

If you missed out, no worries. The Chicago Cupcake Guide is available online (and makes a great last minute gift!), and there are still cupcake ornaments at my Etsy shop. You’ll want to order those by this weekend so they’ll arrive in time.

Have a great holiday season everyone! Unless there’s some really, really juicy cupcake news, I’ll see you next year.

I know it’s hard to pick just one place, but do you have a favorite Chicago cupcake bakery? Share in the comments and you’re entered to win!

Chicago Cupcakes!

Congrats to our Day 11 winner, Elizabeth McElherne! There’s one more Chicago Cupcake Guide or a cupcake ornament to give away and I’m giving it away tomorrow! Leave a tweet, leave a comment — all responses are entries! Read details of the giveaway here, and enter as often as you like!

What’s the best cupcake you had this year? Please share! I’ll throw my answer in the comments.

Congrats to our Day 10 winner, Holly Peterson! I’m giving away either a Chicago Cupcake Guide or a cupcake ornament through December 17. Leave a tweet, leave a comment — all responses are entries! Read details of the giveaway here, and enter as often as you like!

According to an NBC story, Flirty Cupcakes will be hitting the road this weekend with an additional passengers — designer Cynthia Rowley and members of the online clothing deals emporium, Gilt Groupe. People can sign-up for designer stuff while sampling cupcakes.

Personally, I think this promotion is at cross-purposes. I, for one, couldn’t eat too many of Flirty’s cupcakes and still expect to fit into any of Rowley’s creations. YMMV.

Pumpkin Cupcakes

When you buy cupcakes for a party or gathering, how important is the variety? I like to get twelve different types of cupcakes, but not everyone does and not every place will allow that much variety. Where do you go for your party cupcake allotment? Does flexibility play a role?

Congrats to our Day 9 winner, Jennifer Denny! I’m giving away either a Chicago Cupcake Guide or a cupcake ornament through December 17. Leave a tweet, leave a comment — all responses are entries! Read details of the giveaway here, and enter as often as you like!
